Born in London to a Jamaican mother and a South African father in exile, Matshidiso is a multidisciplinary musician; a classically trained pianist, sound artist, composer, producer, teacher, singer-songwriter and podcaster. Her work is rooted in the power of story and its potential to reframe how, who and why we remember. With a background in human rights, Matshidiso has a passion for justice and a deep value for collaborative interdisciplinary practice.
Inspired by jazz, alternative music, hip-hop, world music and singer-songwriters of the 70s, Matshidiso’s eclectic fusion of styles adds up to a soulful sound that is uniquely hers. She first introduced audiences to her songwriting with the 2012 EP Nursery Rhymes for Grown Folks, a reimagining of children’s nursery rhymes for adults. In 2016, she followed with Fragile, a stripped-back, piano-led exploration of vulnerability and emotional honesty. She has also released four singles, and in 2025, released her debut album, IDKL. The album marks a significant artistic milestone and the culmination of years of interdisciplinary creative practice.
Her work has touched audiences across London, Paris and Johannesburg, with performances that blur the lines between concert, storytelling and sonic reflection.
