Rokia Traoré is an award-winning Malian-born singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist. Her album, Bowmboï won the Critics Award category at the BBC Radio 3 Awards for World Music in 2004 and another titled Tchamantché won Victoires de la Musique World Music Album of the Year in 2009.
In 2015, Traoré was appointed a UNHCR Regional Goodwill Ambassador for West and Central Africa.
In honour of her appointment as a Goodwill Ambassador, Rokia released a special video of the title track from her album “Né So” (Home) in her native Bambara language. She dedicated this video to the Malian refugees displaced by the 2012 conflict in northern Mali and to displaced individuals worldwide.
She has been working with UNHCR to raise awareness about the forcibly displaced, particularly in Africa, since 2013 and actively endorses the UNHCR’s IBelong campaign, which aims to eliminate statelessness by 2024.
