Dr. Ally Olotu is a Senior Scientist with a strong interest in infectious disease epidemiology and immunology. He is the Director of Science at Ifakara Health Institute in Tanzania and a Senior European and Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership (EDCTP) fellow.
Over the past 14 years, Dr Olotu’s research has significantly contributed to the understanding of malaria epidemiology and naturally acquired immunity. His work has provided valuable insights into the safety, immunogenicity, and efficacy in endemic populations. He has also led studies on the immune response and effectiveness duration of the RTS,S malaria vaccine. Olotu’s recent research includes assessing the impact of detecting and treating low-density malaria infections on the health and immunity of young children in areas with low to moderate malaria transmission, aiming to provide new evidence to guide malaria management as countries progress towards elimination.
Dr. Olotu earned his MD from the University of Dar es Salaam in 2002 and his DPhil from the University of Oxford in 2013. He was a 2017 MRC African Research Leadership Award fellow and has published extensively in international journals. His complete list of publications is available here: NCBI PubMed.
