

Edward Kirumira is a Professor of Medical Sociology and Director of the Stellenbosch Institute for Advanced Study (STIAS), as well as a Professor Extraordinary in the Department of Sociology and Social Anthropology at Stellenbosch University, South Africa.
His work centres on HIV & AIDS, population and reproductive health, emergent diseases, and global health, with extensive in-country experience of several African countries. He has served as a technical advisor to various international organizations and agencies. He holds a PhD from the University of Copenhagen in collaboration with Harvard University and is a Fellow of the Uganda National Academy of Sciences and a Member of the Academy of Science of South Africa.
Before joining STIAS as Director, Prof. Kirumira was Principal of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at Makerere University in Uganda and the National Chair of the Central Coordination Mechanism for the Global Fund for HIV & AIDS, Malaria, and TB.
